If you are developing a WordPress website for your business, you will need an email account with your domain name.
If you opt for a standard email account people will not see your business as reputable. Or you may come across as less professional.
Which of the following emails looks more professional to you?
- Se******@gm***.com
- Se**@se******.com
Most people will agree the latter looks more professional. If you want to setup and use iCloud for WordPress email, this guide will show you how to do it.
You will learn how to make an alias, which is a custom domain name in your email, and the steps you need to take on your WordPress account to ensure your emails get delivered.
The first step to use iCloud for WordPress email begins on your iPhone or iPad
Most people interested in using iCloud as their WordPress email will probably have some other Apple product.
You can use iPhone, iPad, or a MacBook to begin the process of setting iCloud for WordPress.
To get started you need to go to your settings on the device you’re using.
Next you want to click on your name. When you click on your name, you will see many options.
At the top you will see your iCloud email and your picture.
Beneath this you will see the following list of items you can choose from:
- Personal information
- Sign-in & Security
- Payment & Shipping
- Subscriptions
- iCloud
- Media& purchases
- Find my
- Family sharing
You need to choose I cloud.
You will be taken to a screen tells you information about your iCloud account.
Scroll down until you see the header ICLOUD+ in dark grey. You have three options:
- Private Relay
- Hide My Email
- Custom Email Domain
Next, you will need to choose “custom email domain.”
Now on to the next step you need to use iCloud for WordPress email.
Choosing a custom domain name
After you choose “custom email domain” you will see the option to add a domain name.
If you do not have a custom domain, I recommend you not buy one from Apple.
The domain cost is higher than if you buy a domain from Namecheap.
So, if you’ve not done so, learn how to buy a domain for your WordPress site.
If you have a domain, choose “add a domain you own.”
You will be prompted to indicate if you are the only person who will want an email address with your domain name or if others will use your domain with an email.
If you choose “only you” you can register up to 3 alias emails for your domain.
If you want others to have an email address, such as employees or freelancers, you should choose “you and other people.”
Once you choose this you are going to choose whether you have an existing email address or not. Choose the option that is best for you.
Next you need to input your domain name.
Then you will be asked to create an email with your domain name.
It will appear as na**@yo********.com. You can change “name” to anything you want.
The name you choose here will become your email address for your WordPress site.
Once this is complete you cannot immediately use iCloud email for WordPress.
You must get the domain records for iCloud.
Apple provides these after you input the email you want for your WordPress account.
Getting your domain entries to connect and use iCloud email for WordPress
You will be taken back to the screen below.
Choose your domain and you will be taken to a page that provides instructions.
You will need to follow these instructions to add DNS records to your domain host.
If you are using a CDN, these records may be configured through your CDN provider.
However, in most cases you find these records by going to the website you bought your domain from.
You can close out of your settings now.
You will receive an email form Apple that tells you the DNS records you need to add in your domain registrar’s DNS section.
If you are a client working with me for email solutions for your WordPress site, please share these records with me and I will update your DNS records accordingly.
You will need to share the following:
- TXT
- SPF
- MX
- MX
- DKIM
If you are working on your WordPress site and setting up your website to use iCloud for WordPress email, you will need the records mentioned above.
You will need to add these to your DNS records. If needed, you can read my guide for updating DNS records.
Your domain provider should have extensive documentation on their website to guide you in updating your DNS records.
Why do I recommend you use iCloud for WordPress email?
If you are an Apple user, getting iCloud aliases for your website email addresses has a few benefits.
First, it’s much cheaper than Google Workspace. Next, you can receive all your messages in a unified inbox.
Lastly, it is bundled with Apple One, meaning you get Apple Music, News, Magazines, Fitness and TV bundled in the cost of the email subscription.
Most importantly, all of your important documentation like calendars, appointments and emails are in one account for you.
If you aren’t an Apple user, I recommend you purchase email addresses from Namecheap. They are the most affordable I have found online and their customer support is great.
Your business email will have a lasting impact on your reputability.
No matter the provider you choose, ensure it is correctly setup or you may miss out on important emails.
If you are reaching out to someone, the last thing you want is for your email to end up in the spam box.
Setting up important records like DKIM can help improve deliverability. If you choose to setup your WordPress email account alone, make sure you add the relevant details or your messages may never be seen.
Do you need help setting up your WordPress so you can use an Apple email account?
